Cookie policy
What this site stores on your device, and what it asks first.
Tempinsuranceuk.com is run by Simply Quote Comparison Ltd, trading as TempQuote. This page lists every cookie and similar technology the site uses, what each is for, who sets it, how long it lasts and which need your consent. It was written from a test of the site itself, not from a template, and nothing optional runs until you say so.

1. The short version
- Today the site sets one cookie, ours, and only once you have made a choice in the banner. It remembers that choice for six months.
- Nothing else is stored or read on any page you read, by us or anyone else. We tested this in a real browser on 10 October 2026.
- The contact page is the exception. Its map comes from Google and waits until you allow functional cookies or load it yourself.
- Analytics waits for a yes. Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, delivered through Google Tag Manager, load only after you allow analytics, and you can say no with one click. No marketing or advertising cookie is used at all.
- Getting a quote takes you to GoShorty’s site, which has its own cookies, its own banner and its own policy. We do not control them.
- Change your mind any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page, or the button at the top of this one.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so that the next page, or the next visit, can recognise it. The law does not stop at cookies. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations cover any technology that stores information on your device or reads information already there, and the Information Commissioner’s Office’s guidance on storage and access technologies, finalised in April 2026, spells out that this takes in tracking pixels, web storage (localStorage and sessionStorage), scripts and tags, device fingerprinting and link decoration. Everything on this page applies to all of them.
First party and third party
A first-party cookie is set by the site you are on: here, tempinsuranceuk.com. A third-party cookie is set by someone else whose code runs on the page, and it is the kind that can follow you between sites. Our fonts, images and scripts are served from our own domain, so reading this site involves no third party at all. The map on the contact page is the one place third-party code runs, and only after you allow it; section 5 lists it.
Two rules, kept apart
The Regulations decide whether anything may be stored on or read from your device, and require your consent for anything that is not strictly necessary for something you have asked for. UK GDPR then decides what may be done with any personal data involved. They are separate tests and one does not satisfy the other. Our privacy policy covers the second; this page covers the first.
3. Who controls what: us and GoShorty
Everything on tempinsuranceuk.com is ours to answer for. Everything after you continue to a quote is GoShorty’s.
The quote form on this site asks for one thing, a vehicle registration, and sends it to our hand-off page as part of the web address. That is an ordinary page request, not a cookie, and it leaves nothing on your device. The hand-off then takes you to GoShorty’s own quote journey at buy.v4.goshorty.co.uk, run by Complex to Clear Group Limited, which asks its own questions, prices the policy, takes payment and issues the certificate. None of that technology runs on our pages.
- GoShorty’s cookies are set on its own domain, by its own banner, under its cookie policy and its privacy policy. At the time of writing its policy names performance and targeting cookies and providers including Google, Meta, Microsoft Advertising, Microsoft Clarity and Dotdigital. Those are its choices, and you make your own on its banner.
- Nothing passes between the two. No GoShorty cookie is set or read on this site, and no cookie of ours is read by GoShorty. A choice you make here does not carry across, and the reverse.
- Attribution. So that GoShorty can pay us the introducer fee described on the about page, the hand-off will carry a reference that identifies this site as the source. The details are being settled and our privacy policy will say what it carries. It is not a cookie.
4. The four categories and what consent each needs
The banner groups everything into four purposes, so you can accept one and refuse another. Essential is always on because the site cannot honour your choice without the cookie that records it. The other three start off and stay off until you switch them on.
| Category | What it covers | Consent | On this site today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Needed for something you have asked for to work: remembering your cookie choice, keeping the site secure. | Not required. Strictly necessary, and always on. | The consent cookie. |
| Functional | Extras that are not needed to read the site, such as an embedded map, which bring their provider’s own cookies with them. | Required. Off until you switch it on. | The Google map on the contact page. It stays unloaded until you allow this category or load it yourself. |
| Analytics | Measuring which pages are read, where visitors come from and how pages are used, including heatmaps and session replays. | Required. Off until you switch it on. | Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, delivered through Google Tag Manager, which loads only after you allow this category. |
| Marketing | Advertising, remarketing and measuring whether an advert led to a visit, across the Simply Quote Comparison Ltd brands. | Required. Off until you switch it on. | Nothing. No advertising or remarketing tag runs on the site. The category exists so the choice is yours if that changes. |

Why the map is functional, not essential
Strictly necessary is judged from your point of view, not ours: a cookie qualifies only when the thing you actively asked for cannot work without it. You can read our address and open it in Google Maps without the embedded map, so the embed is a convenience, and the cookies it may bring are Google’s. That is why it waits.
5. The cookie inventory
Every cookie the site sets or loads, with its purpose, who sets it, how long it lasts and where on the site it applies. The ones marked Essential run without consent, because the site cannot work without them. Everything else is set only after you allow its category in the banner, and is removed when you withdraw.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lasts | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
tiuk_consent Essential | tempinsuranceuk.com (us) | Remembers the cookie choices you made, when you made them, and which version of this policy you saw, so you are not asked on every page. | 6 months | Every page, once you have made a choice |
Google Maps embed Functional | Google LLC | Draws the map of our registered office. Google may set its own cookies when the map loads, under its cookie policy. No cookie was set in our test before the map was interacted with. The names and durations are Google’s to publish. | Set by Google | The contact page, only after you allow functional cookies or load the map yourself |
_ga Analytics | Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) | Tells one visitor from another with a random id. | 2 years | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
_ga_<container> Analytics | Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) | Keeps the state of the current visit for one Analytics property. | 2 years | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
_clck Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (Clarity) | Keeps the Clarity user id and settings across visits. | 1 year | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
_clsk Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (Clarity) | Joins the page views of one visit into a single session recording. | 1 day | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
CLID Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (Clarity) | Records the first time Clarity saw this visitor. | 1 year | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
MUID Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (set from Microsoft’s domains when Clarity runs) | Microsoft’s own identifier for a browser, shared across its services. | 1 year | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
ANONCHK Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (set from Microsoft’s domains when Clarity runs) | Indicates whether the MUID identifier is being transferred to Microsoft’s advertising services. Clarity sets it to 0. | 10 minutes | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
MR Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (set from Microsoft’s domains when Clarity runs) | Tells Microsoft whether to refresh the MUID identifier. | 1 week | Every page, only after you allow analytics |
SM Analytics | Microsoft Corporation (set from Microsoft’s domains when Clarity runs) | Carries the MUID identifier between Microsoft’s domains. | Session | Every page, only after you allow analytics |

Things that are not cookies but belong here
- Web storage. The site itself writes nothing to localStorage or sessionStorage. Anything an analytics tool stores there is covered by the same consent as its cookies.
- Server logs. Our host records each page request, with your IP address, for a short time. That is not stored on your device and is covered by the privacy policy.
- Fonts. The site serves its typefaces from our own domain, so no font service sees your visit.
- Google Search Console. A reporting tool for which searches led here. It is Google’s own data about its search results, sets nothing on your device, and needs no consent.
6. How the banner and your choices work
Your first visit
A banner offers three choices of equal weight: Accept all, Reject all and Manage preferences. Refusing takes the same single click as accepting. The page stays readable behind the banner, scrolling is not treated as agreement, and nothing optional is ticked in advance. Manage preferences opens the four categories with a switch each, Essential locked on and the rest off, and a Save my choices button.
What is recorded
Your choice is written to one first-party cookie, tiuk_consent, which holds which categories you allowed, the time you chose, and the version of this policy you saw. It lasts six months, after which the banner asks again. If this policy changes in a way that affects what a category means, the version changes and the banner asks again sooner. The cookie is readable only by this site, and nothing about your choice is sent anywhere.
How it is enforced
Before anything else runs on a page, the site tells Google’s consent framework that every optional purpose is denied, then updates that to match your stored choice. Google Tag Manager, the container through which Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity are delivered, is not loaded at all unless you have allowed analytics or marketing. Each tag inside it fires only on the matching signal, so one choice governs every tool. The map on the contact page reads the same choice and loads only with functional consent, or when you press Load the map, which counts as consent for that embed on that visit.
Changing or withdrawing
Use , which is also in the footer of every page. Withdrawing a category is as easy as granting it: switch it off and save, or press Reject all. The site then expires every optional first-party cookie it can reach, clears web storage, tells the consent framework the purpose is denied, and reloads the page if a tool had been running, so nothing continues in the background. A third party may still hold data it collected before you withdrew; its own policy says how to ask it to delete that.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, the banner says so. The signal does not change what happens, because every optional purpose is already off until you choose otherwise, but you will not find anything switched on behind your back. We do not act on the older Do Not Track header, which has no agreed meaning.
Testing
We check the behaviour with an automated browser test before any change ships: a visit with no choice made, one after Accept all, one after Reject all, and one after accepting and then withdrawing. The test records every cookie, every storage key and every third-party host contacted, and passes only when nothing optional appears before a choice, the analytics cookies appear only after Accept all, the consent cookie stands alone after Reject all, and the analytics cookies are gone again after withdrawing.
7. Analytics and website optimisation tools
Every tool here waits for the Analytics category. Nothing in this section runs until you allow it, and all of it stops when you withdraw.
Google Tag Manager
A container that loads other tags. It sets no cookie of its own and collects nothing itself, but everything below is delivered through it, which is why it is not loaded at all until you allow analytics or marketing. Every tag inside it is tied to the consent signal for its category, so a tag cannot run on a choice you did not make.
Google Analytics 4
Counts page views, where visitors arrive from, which pages lead to the quote form and how long people stay, using the _ga cookies to tell one visit from the next. It runs with Google Signals and advertising features off, so it does not join your visit here to your Google account or to visits elsewhere. Google processes the data in the United States under its data processing terms, described in the privacy policy.
Microsoft Clarity
Records how pages are used as heatmaps and as replays of sessions: where people scroll, click and hesitate. Its cookies connect the page views of one visit. Before anything leaves your browser Clarity masks what is typed into form fields, and it is set to mask all text on the page, so that a registration, a name or a message is never recorded. Replays are used to fix pages that confuse people, not to identify anyone.
Google Search Console
Not a tracking tool. It reports which Google searches led to this site, from Google’s side, and places nothing on your device. It is listed because people often assume otherwise.
What these tools will never do here
Load before you have agreed. Record what you type. Be used to price, accept or refuse anyone. Be shared with GoShorty or an insurer. Follow you to other websites.
8. Marketing, advertising and remarketing
No marketing or advertising technology runs on the site, and nothing here follows you to other websites. The Marketing category exists in the banner so that the choice is yours if that ever changes.
Marketing across our brands
Simply Quote Comparison Ltd runs several insurance websites: TempQuote, SimplyQuote, LandlordQuote. Marketing from any of them is by email or text, only to people who ticked a box for that brand and that channel, as the privacy policy sets out. It is not done with cookies. No cookie on this site is used to recognise you on a sister site, and no sister site’s cookie is read here.
Drip
Drip is the email platform that would hold the marketing list and send the messages. Its email tracking happens inside the emails, through an open pixel and tracked links, and is covered by the privacy policy. Drip also offers a website script that sets cookies to tie site visits to a subscriber; that script is not installed and would be listed in the inventory, under Marketing, before it ever was.
Advertising and remarketing
Remarketing means showing you our adverts on other websites after a visit here, using an advertising cookie or pixel. None is installed. If that changed, it would need its own entry above, its own switch in the banner under Marketing, and your consent before the first pixel loaded. Measuring whether an advert led to a visit is the same category and the same rule.
9. Controlling cookies in your browser
Your browser can block or delete cookies for every site, including this one. The settings are here:
Blocking everything breaks nothing on this site except the banner’s memory of your choice, so you may see it again. A private or incognito window keeps cookies only until it closes. The broker’s quote journey is a different site with its own needs, and blocking everything there may stop it working. The Information Commissioner’s Office publishes plain guidance on cookies for the public.
10. Questions, complaints and changes
Questions to hello@tempinsuranceuk.com. If you find anything on this site storing or reading information on your device that is not on this page, please tell us: it would be an error and we would want to fix it. Complaints about cookies go to us first through our complaints policy, and to the Information Commissioner’s Office at any time at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
This is version 2026-10-10.1, effective 10 October 2026, published for TempQuote, a trading style of Simply Quote Comparison Ltd. When a cookie or tool is added, this page changes before it does, the consent version changes so the banner asks again, and the inventory is re-tested on the day. The consent framework behind the banner is Google’s consent mode; the banner itself is ours, with no third-party consent platform involved.
