Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
This policy covers tempinsuranceuk.com, which is run by Simply Quote Comparison Ltd under its trading style TempQuote. It explains what we hold, who we share it with, how marketing from our brands works, and the rights you have. The quote itself is prepared by GoShorty on its own site under its own notice, and section 5 says where the line is.

1. Who is responsible for your data
Simply Quote Comparison Ltd is the data controller for everything described on this page.
| Controller | Simply Quote Comparison Ltd, trading as TempQuote |
| Company number | 15008284, registered in England and Wales |
| Registered office | Sentinel House, Ancells Business Park, Harvest Crescent, Fleet, Hampshire, GU51 2UZ |
| ICO registration | ZB659587, searchable on the ICO register |
| Data protection contact | hello@tempinsuranceuk.com, or the registered office by post |
| Data protection officer | Chris Richards, reached at hello@tempinsuranceuk.com or the registered office |
The names you will see
tempinsuranceuk.com is the web address and the name this site goes by. TempQuote is the registered trading style under which Simply Quote Comparison Ltd runs it. Neither is a company in its own right: the company is the controller, whichever name you reached it under. Simply Quote Comparison Ltd also runs other trading styles, listed in section 9, and holds one ICO registration for all of them.
What this policy does not cover
When you continue to a quote you leave this site for the quote journey run by GoShorty, which is responsible for everything you enter there under its own privacy notice. Section 5 explains that relationship. This page does not cover any other website you reach from a link here.
2. The short version
- The quote form asks for one thing, a vehicle registration, and passes it to GoShorty with you. Everything else a quote needs is collected by GoShorty on its own site.
- The contact form collects your name, email address and message so we can reply.
- We run no analytics and send no marketing today. When we switch either on, it waits for your consent, and consent for marketing is asked brand by brand and channel by channel.
- We never sell your data, never buy lists, and never ask for card, bank or licence details.
- You can see, correct or delete what we hold, object, or withdraw consent, by emailing hello@tempinsuranceuk.com. We answer within a month.
3. What we collect, and how
What you give us
- A vehicle registration, if you use the quote form. It is the only thing the form asks for. On its own it does not identify you to us, but it can be linked to the keeper by anyone with access to DVLA records, so we treat it as personal data.
- A contact form message: your name, email address, the subject you choose, a page address if you give one, and the message. It is emailed to our mailbox and we keep no other copy.
- A complaint: the detail of it and the correspondence about it.
- Marketing preferences, if you opt in: which brands and channels you ticked, the wording shown, and when. Nothing is collected until you tick.
What we record automatically
Our hosting provider’s server logs record the page requested, the date and time, your browser and operating system, the site you came from, and your IP address. The quote form sends your registration straight to GoShorty as part of the web address of its quote journey, so it does not pass through our server and is not in that log line. The map on the contact page is drawn by Google, which sees that your browser loaded it. Section 8 covers what analytics would add, once switched on.
What GoShorty collects, not us
A quote needs far more than a registration: your name, address, date of birth, licence, driving history, any convictions, the vehicle and the dates. GoShorty asks for all of that at buy.v4.goshorty.co.uk, takes the payment, and issues the policy. None of it passes through us and we cannot see it.
Special category data and criminal convictions
We ask for none. Convictions are asked about by GoShorty as part of its quote, because insurers price on them, and that information is held by GoShorty under its own notice. If you mention health or anything similar in a message to us, we use it only to answer you.
What we never ask for
Bank or card details, your date of birth, your licence number, or a password. We never telephone you to ask for a payment. If a form or a caller claiming to be tempinsuranceuk.com asks for any of these, it is not us, and we would like to know.
Younger drivers
Learner cover exists from 17, so some visitors are under 18. We do not ask anyone’s age and receive only a registration from the quote form. If you believe we hold a message from a child that should not be here, ask us and we delete it.
4. Why we are allowed to use it
| What we do | Lawful basis | Where that leaves you |
|---|---|---|
| Passing you and your registration to GoShorty for a quote | Steps taken at your request before a contract | Without this there is no quote. You can instead go to GoShorty directly and type the registration there. |
| Answering a message, an enquiry or a data request you send us | Our legitimate interests, and our legal obligations | You can object, though it may mean we cannot answer you. |
| Handling a complaint and keeping the file | Our legal obligations, and our legitimate interests | We may have to keep the file even if you ask us to delete it. |
| Keeping the site secure and available, including limiting how often one connection can send the contact form | Our legitimate interests | You can object, and we weigh it against the reason for the logs. |
| Measuring how the site is used (analytics), when switched on | Your consent, asked before any analytics cookie is set | Decline and the site works exactly the same. |
| Marketing from the Simply Quote Comparison Ltd brands by email or text | Your consent, per brand and per channel | Withdraw it at any time and we must stop. |
| Remarketing and advertising measurement, if ever used | Your consent, asked separately from analytics | Decline and no advertising cookie is set. |

What our legitimate interests are
Keeping the website up and defended against abuse, and answering a question or a complaint properly. Where we rely on this basis we have weighed it against your interests, and you can ask us to explain that balance or object to it. We never rely on legitimate interests for marketing or for analytics cookies: both wait for consent.
Automated decisions
Nothing on this site makes an automated decision about you. Motor pricing and acceptance are largely automated across the market, so GoShorty and its insurers may use automated processes and may check what you tell them against DVLA, claims and anti-fraud databases. Where such a decision has a legal or similarly significant effect, you can ask the firm that made it for a person to review it. That right is exercised against GoShorty or the insurer, not us.
5. GoShorty’s independent role
GoShorty is a separate data controller, not our processor. From the moment you reach its quote journey, it decides what it collects and what it does with it.
GoShorty is a trading style of Complex to Clear Group Limited, company number 05044963, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under reference 751221 and registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under ZA456686. We introduce you to it and pass across the registration you typed. It then asks its own questions, prices the policy with its insurers, takes payment, issues the certificate, services the policy and handles any claim, and shares what it needs with the insurer it places you with. Each of those insurers is a controller in its own right.
- Its privacy notice is at goshorty.co.uk/privacy-policy and governs everything it collects, including any transfer outside the UK and any marketing it sends.
- We cannot see your quote or policy. We hold no record of either, and a request to see, correct or delete that data goes to GoShorty.
- Marketing by GoShorty is its own decision, with consent collected on its site. Opting out of our marketing does not opt you out of its, and the reverse.
- Attribution. So that GoShorty can pay us the introducer fee described on the about page, the hand-off tells GoShorty that the introduction came from this site. It carries nothing that identifies you.
6. Who we share it with
One separate controller, GoShorty, and a short list of suppliers who act only on our instructions. Each row says what the supplier does, which part of the site it serves, and where it processes the data.
| Who | What they do with it | Where, and the safeguard |
|---|---|---|
| Complex to Clear Group Limited, trading as GoShorty Separate controller | Receives you, and the registration you entered, when you continue to its quote journey. Collects everything else it needs on its own site, sells and services the policy, and handles any claim. On: The quote form, on every cover page. Their privacy notice | United Kingdom; its own notice describes any transfer it makes |
| Vercel Inc. Processor | Hosts the website and serves its pages. Keeps short-lived server and security logs, which include the registration if you use the quote form. On: Every page. Their privacy notice | United States and EU regions; UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses in its data processing agreement |
| Google LLC (Google Maps) Separate controller for what it collects when the map loads | Draws the map of our registered office on the contact page. Google sees that your browser loaded the map and may set its own cookies. On: The contact page, after you allow functional cookies or load the map yourself. Their privacy notice | United States; Google’s own privacy policy |
| Resend, Inc. Processor | Delivers the email the contact form sends to our mailbox, and the replies we send to you. Holds the message only as long as delivery needs. On: The contact form. Their privacy notice | United States; data processing agreement with the UK Addendum |
| Drip (Drip Global, Inc.) Processor | Holds the marketing list for the Simply Quote Comparison Ltd brands, sends marketing email and SMS to people who have opted in, records opens, clicks and opt-outs, and runs the segmentation and automation described in the marketing section. On: Marketing, for people who have opted in. Their privacy notice | United States; data processing agreement with the UK Addendum |
| Google LLC (Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager) Processor for measurement; Google uses some data for its own purposes under its terms | Measures how the site is used: pages viewed, where visitors came from, and which actions were taken. Tag Manager loads the measurement code and nothing else. On: Every page, only after you consent to analytics. Their privacy notice | United States; Google Ads Data Processing Terms with the UK Addendum |
| Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft Clarity) Processor | Records how pages are used as heatmaps and session replays, with text you type masked before it leaves your browser. On: Every page, only after you consent to analytics. Their privacy notice | United States and EU; Microsoft’s data protection addendum with the UK Addendum |

Our suppliers
Each processor works under a written contract that requires it to keep the data secure, use it only on our instructions and for nothing else, and delete it when we say so.
When the law requires it
We disclose personal data where we are legally obliged to, for example to the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Ombudsman Service, the Information Commissioner’s Office, the police or a court, and where we need to in order to establish or defend a legal claim. If the business or part of it were sold, records could transfer to the buyer, who would be bound by this policy.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, pass it to anyone to market their own products, or buy marketing lists.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies, pixels, tags and local storage all count. The rule is the same for each: nothing that is not strictly necessary is set until you have agreed.
| Category | What it is for | Consent | On this site today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operational | Things the site needs to do what you asked: remembering a choice you made, protecting a form from bots, keeping the site up. | Not required where strictly necessary | The consent cookie once you have chosen. Nothing site-wide. |
| Functional | Extras that are not needed to read the site, such as an embedded map, which bring their provider’s own cookies with them. | Required, before anything loads | The Google map on the contact page, which waits for your consent or a press of Load the map. |
| Analytics | Measuring which pages are read, where visitors come from and how pages are used, including heatmaps and session recordings. | Required, before anything is set | None. Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity are planned and will wait for consent. |
| Advertising | Showing you our adverts elsewhere after a visit (remarketing) and measuring whether adverts led to a visit. | Required, separately from analytics | None. No advertising pixel or remarketing tag is on the site. |
Scroll the table sideways to see every column.
How consent works
A banner asks on your first visit, with Accept all, Reject all and Manage preferences carrying equal weight and nothing optional ticked in advance. Your choice is kept for six months in one cookie of ours, with the date and the version of the cookie policy you saw, and you can change or withdraw it at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer. Until you say yes, no analytics or advertising tool is loaded at all: Google’s consent framework starts every optional purpose as denied, and the tag container that would deliver Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity is not fetched. Today there is nothing in those categories to switch on, so Accept all changes only one thing: the map on the contact page, which is Google’s code and waits for functional consent or a press of Load the map. Declining changes nothing about how the site works.
Read the cookie policy, which lists every cookie by name and explains how to control them in your browser.
8. Analytics and behavioural tools
Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager
Analytics 4 counts page views, where visitors arrive from, which pages lead to the quote form, and how long people stay. It uses a first-party cookie to tell one visit from the next, and Google processes the data in the United States under its data processing terms. IP anonymisation is on, and Google Signals are not used or advertising features unless you have separately consented to advertising. Tag Manager is the container that loads the measurement code; it collects nothing itself.
Microsoft Clarity
Clarity records how pages are used as heatmaps and as replays of sessions: where people scroll, click and hesitate. Before anything leaves your browser, Clarity masks the text in form fields, and it is set to mask all text on the page so that a registration, a name or a message is never recorded. Replays are kept for the period in section 11 and are used to fix pages that confuse people, not to identify anyone.
Google Search Console
Search Console reports which searches on Google led to this site. It is Google’s own data about search results and carries no information about you as an individual; nothing is set on your device to make it work.
What these tools will never do here
Run before you have agreed. Record what you type. Be used to price, accept or refuse anyone. Be shared with GoShorty or an insurer. Follow you to other websites, unless you have separately agreed to advertising cookies under the next section.
9. Marketing across our brands
Marketing is sent only to people who ticked a box for it, brand by brand and channel by channel. Nothing you do on this site, including getting a quote, adds you to a list.
Who the brands are
Simply Quote Comparison Ltd runs several insurance websites under different trading styles. Each is the same company, but each has its own audience, so consent is asked for each one separately. A tick for one brand never covers another.
- TempQuote (tempinsuranceuk.com): temporary vehicle insurance.
- SimplyQuote (simplyquote.co.uk): insurance comparison across car, home, van and more.
- LandlordQuote (landlordinsuranceuk.com): landlord insurance.
What you are agreeing to
Messages from the brands you tick, about their products, offers and guides, including products and services those brands add later that are relevant to what you first came for. Sent by the channels you tick: email or text message (SMS). Nothing you receive from this site, and no quote, depends on ticking anything.
The opt-in wording
Wherever consent is collected, the boxes are unticked and the text beside them is this:
Yes, keep me posted. I would like to hear about relevant products, offers and guides from:
- TempQuote (tempinsuranceuk.com)
- SimplyQuote (simplyquote.co.uk)
- LandlordQuote (landlordinsuranceuk.com)
Contact me by:
- text message (SMS)
Each brand is a trading style of Simply Quote Comparison Ltd. Tick only the ones you want. You can change your mind at any time using the link in any message or by emailing hello@tempinsuranceuk.com, and nothing you receive depends on it. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your details.
How consent is recorded
When you tick, we store which brands and channels you chose, the exact wording shown, the date and time, the page it was on, and the version of this policy, so that any message can be traced back to the consent that allows it. The record is kept for as long as the consent stands, and a note that you opted out is kept indefinitely as a suppression record, so you are not added again by mistake.
The tools, and what they do
- Drip holds the list, sends the messages, and records whether each was opened and which links were clicked, which is standard in email tools and lets us stop sending what nobody reads.
- Segmentation means grouping the list by what you consented to and what you came for, for example people who asked about van cover, so that a van brand does not email you about home insurance. We do not profile you beyond that.
- Automation means a message sent on a schedule after an event, such as a welcome message after you opt in. Every automated message carries the same unsubscribe link.
- Remarketing, if ever used, means showing our adverts on other sites to people who visited this one. It needs an advertising cookie, which waits for its own consent under section 7, and it is not in use.
- Text messages need your mobile number, which no form on this site collects today. If a form ever asks for one, it will say that it is for SMS marketing and carry its own tick.
What we do not do
We do not use the “soft opt-in” for existing customers, because our customers buy from GoShorty, not from us, and we do not treat a quote as a purchase from us. We do not sell or share the list. We do not add anyone who did not tick, and we do not pre-tick.
How to stop it
Use the unsubscribe link in any message, reply STOP to a text, or email hello@tempinsuranceuk.com. You can withdraw for one brand and keep another. We do not ask why, do not make you log in, and do not send a final message asking you to reconsider. Withdrawal takes effect at once for messages not yet sent.
10. Sending data outside the UK
Several of our suppliers are based in, or run infrastructure in, the United States. Where personal data leaves the UK, one of the safeguards below applies.
In order of preference: the destination is covered by UK adequacy regulations; or the supplier is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the UK treats as adequate; or the transfer is made under the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, with a transfer risk assessment carried out first. The supplier table in section 6 names the safeguard for each. You can ask for a copy of the one that applies to a particular supplier. Complex to Clear Group Limited is a UK company, and its own notice describes any transfer it makes.
11. How long we keep it
| What | How long | Why that long |
|---|---|---|
| A registration entered in the quote form | Only as long as the server logs, below | The form sends it to our quote page as part of the web address, so it appears in the request log for that page. We keep no separate record of it. |
| A message you send us | 12 months | Long enough to deal with a follow-up question, or a complaint about how we answered it. |
| Complaint files | 6 years from the final response | Complaints can reach the Financial Ombudsman Service long after they are closed, and the file is the evidence. |
| Marketing consent, and the record of it | Until you withdraw it | We keep a record of what you agreed to and when, because we have to be able to show consent was given. |
| A record that you opted out | Kept indefinitely | This is the suppression list. Deleting it is how firms accidentally start emailing someone again. |
| Server and security logs | 30 days | Enough to investigate an outage or an attack, not long enough to build a picture of anyone. |
| Analytics and session recordings | The shortest period each tool offers | Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity each offer a choice of retention periods, and the shortest is chosen when each is configured. |
Scroll the table sideways to see every column.
At the end of the period the record is deleted, or anonymised so that it can no longer be connected to you.
12. How we keep it safe
Every page is served over HTTPS, so what you send is encrypted in transit. Our suppliers encrypt data at rest. Access is restricted to named people who need it for their work, and the contact mailbox is reached only with two-factor sign-in. The contact form is protected from automated abuse by a hidden trap field, a minimum fill time and a limit on how often one connection can send, and nothing you send through it is stored on this site. We keep logs so that we can tell what happened if something goes wrong. No system is perfectly secure and we do not claim otherwise.
If there is a personal data breach likely to risk your rights and freedoms, we report it to the Information Commissioner’s Office within 72 hours of becoming aware of it. If the risk to you is high, we contact you directly and explain what we are doing about it.
13. Your rights
| The right to | What it means here |
|---|---|
| Be told what we do with it | Which is what this page is for. You can ask us to explain anything on it. |
| See a copy of it | A subject access request. We give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, which on this site is usually very little. |
| Have it corrected | If something we hold is wrong or out of date, ask and we fix it. |
| Have it deleted | Sometimes called the right to be forgotten. It is not absolute: we may have to keep a complaint file. |
| Restrict what we do with it | Ask us to hold it but stop using it, for example while a correction is sorted out. |
| Take it elsewhere | Data portability. Where we hold it because you consented or because of a contract, you can ask for it in a machine-readable form. |
| Object to our using it | Where we rely on legitimate interests. If you object to marketing we must stop, with no argument. |
| Withdraw consent | At any time, as easily as you gave it. Withdrawing it does not undo what was lawful before. |
How to use them
Email hello@tempinsuranceuk.com, choose “a data protection request” on the contact form, or write to the registered office. You do not need to quote any law or use any particular wording. We respond within one month; if a request is complex or you have made several, we may extend by up to two further months and will tell you within the first month. We may ask you to confirm your identity before handing over data, asking for the least we can manage with. There is no charge, apart from the narrow case the law allows for a request that is manifestly unfounded or excessive, which we would explain first. A request about what GoShorty holds goes to GoShorty, because we cannot see it.
14. Complaining about how we use your data
To us first, if you are willing: email complaints@tempinsuranceuk.com and it goes through our complaints policy. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at any time, without asking us first, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, on 0303 123 1113, or by post to Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. A data protection complaint about GoShorty or an insurer goes to that firm, then to the ICO. A complaint about the insurance itself is a different thing and goes through the Financial Ombudsman Service.
15. Changes to this policy
This is version 2026-10-10.1, effective 10 October 2026, published for TempQuote, a trading style of Simply Quote Comparison Ltd. The effective date at the top is the quickest check for a change. If a change materially affects what we do with data we already hold about you, we contact you directly rather than rely on you noticing. We keep previous versions so that a consent given in the past can be matched to the wording shown at the time; ask us if you need one. The version number changes whenever the opt-in wording, the supplier list or a lawful basis changes.
